“Sig”fried (minus Roy) Equals Escape Artist Puppy

floppy-earHi everybody! It’s me, Sig! I wasn’t sure at first when Heidi told me about this blog thing that I would have any stories to add, but boy do I have stories! My life is awesome! I could probably tell a million stories, but I’ll just a do a few today because I think Heidi and Holly have stories to tell, too.  I don’t want to be greedy or the center of attention.  I think I already get a lot of attention, so I’ll share the attention for now.

First thing I want to tell you is that I really love my home.  My people are the best.  My dad is really fun, and oh, how I love my mom! Dad went away for a really long time.  Mom says he was working on the other side of the country.  I got to snuggle in bed with Mom every single night.  Heck, I snuggle with her every night even when he’s here.  The other day Dad got up early to take Heidi and me downstairs so Mom could sleep a little longer.  When he got settled on the couch and wasn’t looking I snuck back upstairs and poked Mom until she lifted me on the bed so I could sleep next to her.  Dad says I’m a Mama’s Boy.  If that means I love Mom best, then that’s the right name for me.  Mom feeds me and plays with me and helps me get to the bathroom so I don’t have an accident.  She also is the one who holds my leash when we go for walks.  She also picks up my poop with a little bag and carries it until our walk is over.  Mom is terrific.

Last weekend something funny happened.  Dad put me in my crate because he and Mom and Samantha were going to be gone for a few hours.  I HATE MY CRATE! I don’t know why, but I do.  I don’t mind the one in the car, but a crate in the house just seems dumb.  I know exactly where I want to sleep.  It’s up against the side of the couch.  Or by the chairs in the kitchen.  I don’t want to sleep in the crate.  I know that Heidi loves her crate, but I just don’t, and I will scream my head off for hours and hours until I help my people understand that I really, really don’t like it.

So Dad put me in my crate.  I don’t care that he gives me a Kong stuffed with peanut butter.  I have a smart brain and that doesn’t change the fact that I’m licking peanut butter out of a Kong while trapped in a crate.  I would really prefer to lick out a Kong on the outside of the crate.  Now that’s a real treat.  So as soon as the garage door closed I started screaming and pawing at that dumb crate door.  One way or the other I was going to get out! I wish I could tell you exactly how I was able to get out of the crate, but I can’t.  I can say that it was magical and as soon as I was out I was able to sleep exactly where I wanted, right up against the couch.  The funny part was seeing the look on Dad’s face when he came in the door and found me right there to greet him.  Boy, was he surprised! The best part was that the door to my crate was still closed and locked.  He just stood there looking at that crate for the longest time trying to figure out how I did it.  Mom started calling me Sigfried.  I guess that’s the name of a famous magical man.

The best part is that I don’t have to go in the crate anymore.  I have proven that I can be trusted to do what they call “free range” the downstairs (Mom blocks off the upstairs just in case I have an accident) when they’re gone.   Mom says I’m quite possibly the best puppy on the planet.  I’m pretty sure the planet is really big, so I think that means I’m really good.  It makes me happy to hear her say that.  Since they trust me I’m trying to be really good.  I don’t chew on anything or poop on the floor.  I find the easiest way to stay out of trouble is by taking a long nap.  I’m really good at napping, and when I wake up it turns out that I didn’t do anything wrong.  So that’s my plan.  If I get to stay home and don’t go in the crate I just take a nap.  I think that’s good advice for anyone.  If you don’t want to do something that can get you in trouble, just take a nap.
